The award recognises NIBE’s groundbreaking efforts to drive energy efficiency in building services with innovative developments that enhance performance, control and user convenience.
Commenting on the winning technology, judges commended the integration of sustainability throughout the design, minimising embodied emissions and environmental impacts, alongside a user-friendly cloud-based platform to enable the transition to decarbonised domestic heating.
Global Warming Potential
Boasting a seasonal performance factor (SCOP) of up to 6.22, the NIBE S1256 GSHP uses new climate-friendly refrigerant, R454b, which reduces Global Warming Potential (GWP) by 78% compared to past refrigerants and sets a new standard for environmentally responsible heating solutions.
Ideal for use in both new build and retrofit projects, the NIBE 1256 is available in two output sizes designed for homes up to approximately 400 m². The ability to integrate with PV-T, NIBE’s on-roof solar photovoltaic and solar thermal system, further enhances the efficiency of the S1256 by utilising solar energy to supplement heating needs and, in many cases, eliminating the need for conventional ground loops – one of the biggest barriers to GSHP uptake.
Impact of our technology
Paul Smith, managing director of NIBE Energy Systems, said: “We are delighted to receive this prestigious award, which recognises NIBE’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of energy efficiency and sustainability in heating. The NIBE S1256 exemplifies our dedication to innovation and environmental stewardship, offering homeowners a high-performance, low-impact heating solution that enhances comfort and drives efficiency.
“We have seen remarkable interest in the NIBE S1256 since its launch. Homeowners, installers and specifiers appreciate its robust performance, energy savings and enhanced controls. This recognition at the Energy Awards 2024 underscores the impact of our technology in driving sustainable practices within the heating industry.”
