Bosch has announced its largest-ever acquisition, purchasing Johnson Controls’ global HVAC business, including the Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning joint venture. Stefan Hartung, chairman of Robert Bosch GmbH, stated, “This is the biggest acquisition in Bosch history and a key milestone in our 2030 strategy. It strengthens our global position in the HVAC market and enhances our presence in the U.S. and Asia.”

Doubling revenue in the HVAC market

Christian Fischer, Bosch’s deputy chairman, added, “With this acquisition, Bosch will nearly double its sales revenue in the HVAC market to roughly €9 billion. The acquired businesses will become part of the Bosch core business – and this will benefit customers, installation partners, and associates.”

George Oliver, CEO of Johnson Controls, expressed confidence, saying, “We are confident that under Bosch’s leadership the business will continue to excel and deliver innovative products and service to its customers.”

Expanding global presence in air conditioning

Jun Abe of Hitachi highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership: “I firmly believe that a global supplier such as Bosch, with its strong European presence and many years of experience in the heating business, is the optimum partner for further expanding the global air-conditioning business of the longstanding Hitachi brand.”

The acquisition, which includes 16 manufacturing sites and 12,000 employees, is expected to close in about 12 months, pending regulatory approval. Bosch plans to integrate the new businesses into its Home Comfort Group, expanding its global footprint in heating and cooling solutions, particularly in air conditioning and heat pumps.

This acquisition positions Bosch to lead in the growing market for energy-efficient HVAC solutions, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change and enhance living standards worldwide.
