Baxi opens doors to address installer skills gap

Baxi recently welcomed industry stakeholders to its new Solutions Academy in Warwick to showcase its efforts in tackling the installer skills gap.

Baxi event

Representatives from key organisations such as the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, MCS, and the Chartered Institute of Housing were present to discuss the crucial role of skills and training in delivering sustainable heating solutions.

Showcasing the training facility

Guests were given a tour of the state-of-the-art 10,000 sqft facility by Ian Trott, Baxi’s head of training solutions. The tour highlighted Baxi’s investment in skills development and the company’s hands-on training offerings for heating engineers.

Set to train 2,000 delegates by 2025, the facility includes a dedicated solutions training room and a digital studio supporting Baxi’s new e-learning platform.

Panel discussions and industry collaboration

During the event, presentations from managing director Jan Rijnen and product and solutions director Paul Haynes emphasised Baxi’s commitment to training for the energy transition.

A panel discussion followed, with insights from the Heat Pump Association, Builders Merchants Federation, Wolseley Group, and the Ground Source Heat Pump Association.

Rijnen highlighted the importance of cross-industry collaboration: “The closure of the skills gap through training is vital to the energy transition but we cannot do it alone. The entire supply chain, government, and heating professionals have to work together to drive awareness and engagement with new training initiatives.”

Installer skills survey launched

Baxi also launched its 2024 Installer Skills Survey, conducted with consultancy Gemserv, revealing a slow uptake in heat pump training. The survey reinforced the need for collaboration between industry and government to drive demand for low-carbon technologies.
