Making renewable energy accessible for UK households
With rising energy prices, demand for renewable systems like solar panels and heat pumps is growing. However, the upfront costs—ranging from £13,600 to £31,500—make them out of reach for many UK households.
Hometree aims to address this by offering low-cost, long-term financing. The company has also partnered with installers, utilities, and manufacturers, including Project Solar, So Energy, and myenergi. This will make Hometree financing available to more consumers and expand options for affordable renewable energy.
New asset class for renewable financing
Hometree has created a securitisation-backed asset class for renewable energy. This offers zero-deposit leases with low interest rates. In some cases, customers can even ‘pay as they save,’ using energy savings to offset costs.
Payment plans of up to 25 years allow customers to spread installation costs across the lifespan of solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps.
Rory Duff, managing director of Hometree Finance, said: “We’re delighted that CPP Investments has joined us in our mission to help homeowners decarbonise their homes by installing solar panels and heat pumps.
“The energy transition will not happen without appropriate finance since very few people have the thousands of pounds needed for the upfront costs. CPP Investments understands the challenge that we are facing and how bridging the gap between the capital markets and the residential sector can accelerate the affordable decarbonisation of UK homes.”
Ben Mason, managing director, European Credit at CPP Investments, added: “CPP Investments is an active participant in strategic financing transactions for innovative UK businesses in the energy transition sector. Our significant participation supports business expansion for Hometree while generating appropriate risk-adjusted returns for CPP contributors and beneficiaries.”
