The installation is forecast to generate up to 200,000 kWh of renewable energy in its first year, equivalent to removing 30 cars’ emissions annually.
Located on Cheltenham’s High Street, the Brewery Quarter is home to various restaurants, shops, and leisure facilities.
The solar installation will power heating, lighting, and air conditioning in the shared areas of the estate, cutting energy costs by around £50,000 each year.
The project is funded by NFU Mutual and managed by Martin Commercial Properties, in partnership with local installer Your Eco, using SolarEdge technology for optimal energy production and safety.
Solar energy savings and sustainability
Bryony Plain-Jones, asset manager at NFU Mutual, said: “As the owner, we are thrilled to take this significant step towards improving sustainability. This investment in solar energy not only aligns with our values as a responsible property owner, but it also contributes to the long-term viability and resilience of the development.
“We are proud to support initiatives that prioritise environmental conservation and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the local community.”
Rob Howse, operations manager at Martin Commercial Properties, added: “As a company, we are laser-focused on reducing the environmental impact both of our own operation and those of our customers.
“By harnessing the power of solar energy, commercial operators can significantly reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to achieving a greener, more sustainable future for local communities.”
Innovative technology for efficiency and safety
Installed by Your Eco, the system incorporates SolarEdge Power Optimisers, which enhance energy output and offer advanced safety features. The 15-battery setup stores excess energy for use at night, maximising the system’s efficiency.
Nick Spicer, CEO of Your Eco, commented: “Celebrating the successful adoption of a solar photovoltaic system at the Brewery Quarter in Cheltenham is a testament to the power of sustainable energy in action.
“Not only are we witnessing the tangible effectiveness of solar panels in reducing energy costs and carbon emissions, but we have also championed a positive environmental impact that will resonate with the local community.”
