This surge represents the highest monthly application rate since the scheme’s inception.

Data from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) Data Dashboard indicates that 2024 is a record year for certified heat pump installations in the UK. This trend underscores a growing consumer shift towards sustainable heating solutions.

Ian Rippin, CEO of MCS, commented: “The latest government data shows 3,857 applications were made to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) in October 2024—a 20% increase from the 3,223 applications in September and 15% higher than October last year.

“It makes it the record month for applications to the scheme and mirrors data from the MCS Data Dashboard, which shows that 2024 is a record year for certified heat pump installations.

Further funding for the scheme

“It highlights increasing consumer demand for heat pumps, and it was great to see the government announcement in November that there will be further funding for the scheme.

“The BUS continues to improve affordability and access to heat pumps, and because it requires installations to be MCS certified to qualify for the grant, it gives consumers confidence in the quality, safety, and performance of their installation.”
