From more than 1,200 respondents, 89 per cent indicated that they would require more information before purchasing any energy efficiency measures accredited under Green Deal.
BSI has in turn developed a Kitemark system to certify Green Deal products, advisers and installers and to try and combat public uncertainty. BSI, originator of the Kitemark, say this will reassure homeowners about the quality of Green Deal suppliers and give people confidence to take part in the scheme.
BSI adds that its survey showed that 70 per cent of respondents were aware of Kitemark as a trusted source of guidance and more than 50 per cent said they were likely to use Kitemark accredited products.
Maureen Sumner Smith, global marketing director, said: “There is a strong appetite for green initiatives among UK consumers, but our survey demonstrates the need for support and guidance surrounding the Green Deal.
“Retailers will be crucial to making the scheme a success and providing customers with the education and certified products they need. We will work in partnership with our clients, to support them as they rollout their Kitemark range, ultimately helping the government meet its 2020 sustainability objectives.”
