Phono Solar embarks on 800 home project

PV manufacturer Phono Solar has today announced its participation in a project currently underway in York to fit up to 800 council houses with PV.

The company has supplied modules for York City Council’s Empower Community and Nationwide Solar project. Upon completion later this month, tenants will benefit from free electricity and a profit share.

Mariana Hall, vice-president of Phono Solar Europe, said: “Not only does this scheme reduce these council homes’ collective carbon footprint and reduce tenants’ electricity bills, but it also demonstrates the viability of the PV solution to other councils. We hope that City of York Council’s decision to implement the PV solution sets a precedent; which will be followed by councils across the UK. At Phono Solar, we are delighted to be involved in the project.”

Cllr Tracy Simpson-Laing, City of York Council’s cabinet member for health, housing and adult social services, added: “We believe it’s essential that as a responsible landlord we take every opportunity to enable our tenants to reduce their carbon footprint and their energy bills. This low-carbon source of sustainable energy will serve to keep tenants comfortable, healthier and better off.”
