Rural Energy highlights the power of biomass

Waterperry Gardens’ 500kW biomass boiler installed in 2010
Leicestershire-based Rural Energy has partnered with Ofgem to showcase the strength of biomass as a carbon-cutting and bill-reducing renewable technology.

Adam Karimian, the company’s Renewable Heat Incentive expert, took part in an event arranged by the organisers of nextgen exhibition by taking guests on a tour of Waterperry Gardens in Oxfordshire.

The historic site uses a 500kW biomass boiler to heat properties across the estate including glasshouses, teaching rooms and its main buildings.

The tour was part of an RHI and heat metering seminar where Ofgem officials were present to field questions on how to get RHI applications right.

Adam said: “The tour enabled people looking to harness biomass as a potential source of energy and income to see for themselves how it works and the benefits it can bring.”

Rural Energy has recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and reports it is on course to hit the 600 biomass boiler installation mark within the next 12 months – 125MW of total capacity.

Paul Clark, managing director, said: “Biomass technology is increasingly being seen as the viable renewable alternative of choice for organisations and businesses of all sizes.

“The potential for the UK really is enormous. The reduction of the carbon footprint and the economic savings that biomass brings are tremendous.

“Biomass today is a modern, cutting-edge technology. It is also environmentally very sound and is actually increasing the amount of woodland under proper management in the UK.”
