Energy saving chair to fight cancer with Funny Business

Vanda Murray, chair of domestic energy saving company, VPhase plc, is set to raise funds for The Christie and Prostate Cancer UK charities by performing a stand-up comedy routine in front of an audience of hundreds. She is taking part in ‘Funny Business’ with six other business leaders, all of whom will perform at The Comedy Store on Deansgate Locks, Manchester, in October this year.

Vanda is appearing on the same bill as Urban Splash Chairman, Tom Bloxham, ceo of The Christie, Caroline Shaw, Prostate Cancer UK trustee, Sharon Thorne, PZ Cussons area director Africa, Elaine Birchall, DX Group ceo, Petar Cvetkovic and founder of Chess Telecom, David Pollock. Each of the directors has been paired with a professional comedian who will mentor them over the next few weeks as they prepare a four-minute routine.

Vanda said: “If someone would have told me three months ago that I would be preparing a four minute stand-up comedy routine I would have told them they were mad! It is certainly the most challenging thing that I will ever do, but it’s for two brilliant causes and I hope that we can raise ample funds – and smiles – through this event.”

Vanda has been paired with professional comedian, Mick Ferry, who has been described as ‘a fine purveyor of lugubrious surrealism’.
