DECC has committed to distribute £500,000 of funding for the renewable heat incentive training support scheme (RHITSS), which GTEC will administer.
GTEC Training’s managing director Griff Thomas said: “This is great news for us and we are delighted to have been selected after some stiff competition from large national competitors.
“The Domestic RHI is ground-breaking and we are thrilled to have been chosen to be a part of the scheme supporting installers throughout the process.
“GTEC Training Ltd has a long history of providing third party support to organisations all over the world and in the last 12 months has worked for a wide range of organisations from local authorities through to the United Nations delivering third party solutions, site compliance auditing, training and expert witness services.”
The £500,000 will be split across two streams as follows:
Stream 1 – Cross-Skilling support
DECC will make available £250,000 of funding to support installers whom are already qualified in a heating and / or plumbing discipline obtain qualifications in a heat based renewable technology.
Funding will be available through training vouchers for qualifications in the installation and maintenance of the following technologies:
-Solar Thermal
-Heatpump
-Biomass
The vouchers will be valued at 75 percent of the cost of the training, up-to a maximum of £500 per voucher, enabling a minimum of 500 training vouchers to be issued. Vouchers will be limited to 5 per company and will be issued to the candidate, allowing them to redeem their voucher on a qualifying course of their choosing. The training provider will then draw down the value of the voucher, upon completion of the training course, through the scheme administrator.
Stream 2 – Apprenticeship support
DECC will make available £250,000 of funding to support apprentices to include renewables in their apprenticeship programme
The funding will be available to support apprentices whom have already selected a particular renewable technology to complete their apprenticeship programme but wish to add additional technologies.
Furthermore, the scheme will also support those apprentices whom have selected a ‘conventional’ fuel on which to complete their apprenticeship programme (such as Oil or Gas) and whom wish to take up one or more renewable technology in addition to the conventional fuel.
