This level has been achieved following a record breaking year in which 624,468 lights were sold in Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Uganda.
SolarMoney estimates that families in Africa will save over £200m by no longer buying heating oil, and avert over 900,000 tonnes of C02.
SolarAid also estimates that the total number of people benefitting from solar lights in Africa is closer to 50 million, with it accounting for a fifth of all lights sold.
