Summary
Property type: residential
Technologies installed: Heat pump
Collector type: Ground loops
Size (kW): 12kW
New/retrofit: Retrofit
Brand: CTC
Challenges:
As the property is nestled in the hills of the Stroud Valleys, it was necessary to work around the steep gradient of the valley to ensure there would be no airlocks within the pipework at unvented high points. The isoenergy team also had to take into account that the plant room was remote from the main house
The recommended solution:
Following a detailed consultation, isoenergy recommended a 12kW CTC ground source heat pump with a 300L hot water cylinder and a 300L heating buffer tank. The plant room was connected to 750m of collector pipework buried in the adjoining paddock. isoenergy designed the collector array to work around the steep gradient of the valley to ensure there would be no airlocks within the pipework at unvented high points.
Key features:
Joule 300L hot water tank and a Cordivari 300L heating buffer tank
Outcome:
The plant room was remote from the main house so the team buried two pre-insulated distribution pipes to ensure there would be minimal temperature losses as the heating and hot water was distributed to the building.
The owners of The Little Ruin now enjoy an efficient sustainable energy system and a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
