UK’s first 480 kW EV chargers launched

Park Garage Group (PGG) and Helix Renewables have launched the UK’s first 480 kW hyper electric vehicle (EV) chargers, signalling a major shift in the nation’s sustainable energy landscape.

This partnership marks a significant advance in EV infrastructure, with cutting-edge technology now available at a key Park Garage site in Blackpool.

Game-changing technology

At the core of this collaboration are three 480 kW chargers, the most powerful CCS2 models in the UK, capable of fully charging an electric vehicle in just 17 minutes.

This milestone is set to enhance access to fast, efficient charging in Blackpool, an area previously lacking in reliable EV infrastructure. With Helix Renewables leading the design and installation, the project draws on the expertise of several key partners, including Sinewave, NIS Signs, Project EV, Eclipse Power Networks, and Direct Road Markings.

Sunil Tandon, managing director of Park Garage Group, emphasised the importance of this move: “Helix Renewables is one of our trusted partners, and our collaboration marks a pivotal moment for PGG.

“Our new EV charging points are designed with our customers in mind, providing convenient access to fast, reliable charging whilst ensuring each charger is accessible for wheelchair users and located under a lit canopy for safety.”

Boosting adoption of electric vehicles

Phil Nelson, operations director at Helix Renewables, expressed his excitement about the impact of this new development: “We are incredibly proud to bring this game-changing technology to the UK. By partnering with PGG, we’re not just installing chargers; we’re building a targeted, comprehensive and hyper charging infrastructure that will drive the adoption of EV chargers across the UK.”

This installation marks an important step in reducing carbon emissions and advancing the UK’s net-zero goals by making electric vehicles more accessible. Furthermore, the project is expected to increase footfall at the Blackpool site, benefiting both local businesses and the surrounding community through a ‘Charge, Shop, and Go’ experience.
