Heat Pump Association reveals heat pump sales data by type

As Heat Pump Week 2024 gets underway, the Heat Pump Association (HPA) has introduced a game-changing update to its UK heat pump sales data, offering a more granular look at the market by heat pump type for the first time.

This newly segmented data provides insights into factory-gate sales of four categories: air-to-water monobloc units, air-to-water split units, ground and water source units, and ‘other’ units, including domestic hot water heat pumps, exhaust air heat pumps, and integrated hybrid heat pumps.

This level of detail marks a significant advancement in the transparency and utility of the HPA’s statistics resource, which launched in April 2024.

Steady growth and market dominance of monobloc units

The newly segmented data, which tracks back to 2019, reveals a consistent rise in sales of all types of heat pumps through 2022, with Air-to-Water monobloc units continuing to dominate the UK market.

By offering this deeper level of insight, the HPA is helping policymakers and industry leaders alike to better understand the evolving landscape of heat pump adoption in the UK.

Olivia Smalley, head of policy and communications at the HPA, explained the importance of this enhanced data: “As we work to accelerate the deployment of heat pumps across the UK, it’s vital to gain a deeper understanding of the UK heat pump market.

Providing this level of detail is a significant step towards greater transparency in the industry. Our members and stakeholders now have access to enhanced information to help them make more informed decisions, and this data will be vital in shaping targeted policies that drive growth and innovation across all heat pump technologies.”

Enhanced transparency to guide policy and growth

The addition of these more detailed categories to the HPA’s sales data offers a valuable resource for industry stakeholders looking to forecast trends and shape business strategies.

It also plays a key role in helping to guide government policy towards supporting the most impactful areas of the heat pump market, ensuring future policies are aligned with the needs and growth potential of each heat pump technology.

Olivia continued:“The success of heat pump deployment relies on an accurate understanding of market dynamics. With the updated data now available, we can better tailor our strategies to support the growth of various heat pump technologies.

“This is not only a step forward for transparency but also a powerful tool for shaping the future of sustainable heating solutions in the UK.”

Data set to support UK’s transition to clean energy

The HPA’s move to offer more detailed and accessible data comes at a crucial time as the UK continues its push towards net-zero targets.

With heat pumps being a key technology for reducing carbon emissions from homes and businesses, understanding their market trajectory will help inform decisions that affect the entire renewable heating sector.

The segmented data gives industry professionals, policymakers, and consumers greater clarity on which technologies are gaining traction and how they can contribute to the UK’s broader energy goals.
