This innovative home features Haier’s top energy-saving products, including the X Series 11 washer, heat pump dryer, I Pro Shine Series 7 dishwasher, and small kitchen appliances from the I Master Series 5 range.
Each appliance is integrated into a single system controlled by Haier’s hOn app, offering a streamlined approach to home energy management.
Towards a zero-bill home
Steve Macdonald, business director at Haier UK and Ireland, explained: “Welcome to ‘Haier’s Smart Home Solution’ in conjunction with Strata. It has taken us around 12 months to get to this stage.
“But we finally have a full Haier Smart House Solution with white goods / small kitchen appliances, heating and energy appliances which are controlled by one app, Haier’s hOn app, not multiple apps for multiple products.”
Macdonald added that the project aims to achieve zero bills in the summer through a PV and battery system, with winter energy costs significantly reduced by utilising cheap overnight tariffs.
“This will be possible in this house in the summer with the PV and battery solution, in the winter time with the sun not shining as much the householder will be able to take advantage of cheap overnight tariffs for the battery and heating water, so the aim is to massively reduce the energy bills in this house by >80% against the average.”
Innovative heating and energy management
The house features Haier’s Gen 3 air to water heat pump with a COP of 1 to >5, delivering high energy efficiency by needing only 1 kW of energy to generate over 5 kW of output.
“Our latest Haier Gen 3 air to water heat Pump, is being used in the house with a COP (coefficient of performance) of 1 to >5. This means that it only needs 1 KW of energy in delivering > 5 KW out to power the house and it can deliver >60’C of water.”
The system, paired with a 10 kW battery and PV solution, integrates seamlessly into Haier’s hOn app, which controls all appliances to optimise energy use based on availability and tariffs.
Haier’s system allows for full control of heating, with a HEMS (Home Energy Management System) providing a unified approach to utilising solar, battery, or affordable tariffs, creating scenario plans for each.
Continued support for sustainable housing
Haier will monitor the energy consumption in partnership with the home’s owner to assess savings compared to similar homes.
“In addition, all of our Haier white goods in the kitchen and utility room are the most energy efficient devices we have on the market, again controlled by the hOn app and scenario plans can be added to the app, so they automatically work when there is enough energy in the battery.
“This is another first for Haier, the world’s leading home appliance brand,” Macdonald said.
Commitment to sustainable living
Antony Peart, director of brand and communications at Haier Europe, added: “We are delighted to have been selected to provide the appliances for this home that has so much potential to help consumers with the cost of living.
“Haier is committed to sustainability and energy-efficiency, and our appliances are designed to make savings for consumers in all aspects of their domestic lives be it washing, cooking, or cooling and heating all controlled by 1 x app.
“The ‘hOn’ app is a HEMS (Home Energy Management System), where scenarios can be added when using free (solar/battery storage) or much cheaper electricity tariffs to power all appliances. It is fantastic to be able to support a project of this kind that reflects our own mission to reduce our impact on the planet.”
Haier’s energy-efficient housing showcase
Following this, Haier recently showcased an energy-efficient modular home in Liverpool. Built by Wirral-based Starship, this high-specification house featured on Liverpool’s waterfront during the Labour Party conference and aims to reduce heating, hot water, and lighting bills to £124 per year or even zero, depending on usage.
Plans are underway for similar homes, with 13 set to be built in Wirral, bringing affordable, energy-efficient living closer to more families.
