The distance was the equivalent of running from the team’s UK head office in Cambridge to Slobozhanske Hospital in Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine.
As we originally reported in our article ‘Midsummer Energy takes on challenge for RePower Ukraine‘ the team kicked off the challenge back in October, since when runners from Midsummer’s Cambridge and Glasgow branches have been clocking up the miles morning, noon and night, with every lunchtime mile and occasional weekend marathon adding to the total.
John Norman, Head of Marketing said, “The sheer scale of the challenge started to dawn on us in the second week but some favourable autumn weather kept our team on the road. We have a couple of marathon runners but the majority are evening joggers or Parkrun weekenders. With four days remaining we were tantalisingly close until one of our lunchtime runners powered home with a 5 mile run, tipping the total to 1903 miles.”
Renewable energy powering ICUs and maternity units
Midsummer and Photon Energy have been working together to fund a 36.5kW solar PV/battery system for Slobozhanske Hospital in Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine.
They have recently donated and shipped PV modules, inverters and battery storage to the hospital, and are now raising funds for additional equipment which will all be bought from Ukrainian suppliers (mounting system, cabling, isolators etc) and for the installation of the system by local Ukrainian installers.
By providing relatively small PV systems with 30-40kWh of battery storage means electricity can be provided to ICUs, maternity units and monitoring equipment during the power cuts.
The fundraising is still going so, if you’re able to help support the challenge with a donation, click here.
