The initiative allows SolarEdge Home Battery owners in Great Britain to earn up to £250 this winter by participating in grid services that support the UK energy network during periods of high demand or congestion.

Maximising financial rewards through advanced technology

The Flexible Grid Services program leverages SolarEdge’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) capabilities, enabling Home Battery owners to participate in multiple grid services simultaneously.

Batteries respond to grid demands automatically, without manual intervention, ensuring seamless support for the grid while maximising financial rewards for homeowners.

Launch of two grid services

Phase one of the program includes two services:

  1. Demand Flexibility Service – Uses stored energy to supplement grid electricity during peak demand and is available to SolarEdge customers nationwide.
  2. Network Flexibility Service – Allows Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to manage local grid congestion and is available in select areas of Great Britain where required by the DNO.

Future plans include additional services, such as Frequency Response to stabilise grid frequency and Wholesale Energy Market participation, aligning with the UK’s electricity market reforms.

Industry voices highlight the benefits

Christelle Barnes, UK country manager at SolarEdge Technologies, said: “We are delighted to partner with Axle Energy to help SolarEdge customers to unlock even more value from their home solar and storage systems.

“By participating in the Flexible Grid Services program, SolarEdge Home Battery owners can earn meaningful financial rewards for doing their bit to support the grid, making the return on investment period for their solar and storage system even more attractive.

“Importantly, the process is fully automated – meaning that once customers have signed up, they don’t need to do anything else.”

Karl Bach, co-founder of Axle Energy, added: “Households with solar and storage systems have a crucial role to play in helping to decarbonise and support the grid.

“By participating in VPP programs such as SolarEdge Flexible Grid Services, they are helping to ensure a more sustainable and reliable electricity supply for everyone.

“The VPP proposition is particularly compelling for SolarEdge Home battery customers. SolarEdge’s technology is designed to provide an extremely rapid response in grid services scenarios, increasing the number of services customers can be enrolled into. The more services they are able to participate in, the more money they can earn.”
