MCS launches heat load calculator tool to support certified installers

MCS has unveiled a new heat load calculator to assist certified low-carbon heating installers in performing BS EN 12831-1: 2017 compliant heat load calculations.

The online tool ensures accurate room-by-room heat load calculations for properties, enabling installers to correctly size heat pumps and biomass systems in line with MCS standards, including the Heat Pump Design Standard (MIS 3005-D) and The Biomass Installation Standard (MIS 3004).

Features designed for precision and efficiency

The heat load calculator is equipped with guidance prompts, pop-ups, and real-time support to simplify the calculation process, minimise errors, and improve installer efficiency. Once completed, the tool generates a detailed report that can be saved or downloaded for quotations, audits, and compliance checks.

Ian Rippin, CEO of MCS, said: “We’re excited to introduce the MCS heat load calculator, a new tool that empowers our 2,000 certified heat pump and biomass installers with precision and efficiency in determining property heat load.

“We know how important these calculations are for a quality heat pump installation, so we’ve created this user-friendly tool to help installers achieve compliance with MCS standards.”

Accessible for certified and aspiring installers

The tool is exclusively available to MCS certified installers and, starting in January, will also be accessible to those in the process of gaining certification. While the existing Excel-based tool remains available, it will no longer be supported or updated.
