Renewables sector condemns planning regs climb down

The domestic renewable energy industry has condemned the government’s suggestion to do away with the 2008 Planning and Energy Act. The Act, promoted by Michael Fallon, who is now energy minister, provides local authorities with the ability to set specific carbon, renewable energy and energy efficiency targets for new build properties (the so-called ‘Merton Rule’). The suggestion is part of the government’s consultation on the Housing Standards Review, published yesterday.

HETAS opens new technical helpline

HETAS has launched a helpline service designed to provide support and advice for the solid fuel and biomass heating sector. The new initiative will be managed by Mike Harvey who joins HETAS as installer support services manager. Mike comes from a heating industry background having previously worked as an installer and then a college lecturer. Alan Young will also be dealing with enquiries from the new helpline in his role as technical officer for HETAS.

Blenheim Palace goes greener
