France throws weight behind European PV production

Consortium selected for Ulster wind project

The Crown Estate today announced that the consortium, First Flight Wind, has been selected to develop an offshore wind farm off the south east coast of County Down, Northern Ireland. Subject to obtaining all necessary consents from the Department of Environment and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, the project could deliver up to 600 Megawatts (MW) of generating capacity for Northern Ireland. First Flight Wind Ltd is a consortium comprising B9 Energy, DONG Energy and RES.

Steve Pester, BRE, discusses PV-related issues and news With the recent large price drops of PV modules hitting profit margins for manufacturers, distributors and installers, the small scale PV sector is once again in challenging times. Megawatt scale systems are currently supported by Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs), but these are now under review. Whilst the price reductions may be good news for end users, the supply chain has to turn over approximately twice as much business to make the same level of profit compared with a couple of years ago – a difficult (and for some, impossible) task in a regime of reducing feed-in tariffs.
