Megger says its new PVM210 solar irradiance meter is unique by having the solar detector on top of the instrument.
According to Megger, this arrangement, combined with the useful measurement hold function, makes the PVM210 easy and convenient to use – even with just one hand – when working on a sloping roof or at the top of a ladder.
It adds that the pocket-sized PVM210 offers fast accurate readings of solar power and shows the result on a large easy-to-read 3¾-digit liquid crystal display. This makes the instrument ideally suited as an aid to selecting the optimum position for PV panels during installation. In addition, it can also be used in conjunction with an ammeter to verify that the short-circuit current of a PV installation matches the specification provided by the manufacturer of the PV panels.
The PVM210 is designed to measure incident solar irradiance up to 1999 W/m2 (634 BTU/ft2.hour) with a typical accuracy of ± 10 W/m2 (± 3 BTU/ft2.hour).
With a sampling time of just 0.25 seconds, power for the instrument is provided by two AAA/LR03 batteries, with a fresh set of batteries offering around 50 hours of operation.
Sibert Solar has announced a new distribution agreement with Eltek-Valere to stock its THEIA range of grid-tied Solar PV inverters.
The company says that inverters are available for single and three-phase installations, with or without high-frequency trans-former topology.
Sibert adds that with exceptionally high peak (and EU) efficiency levels, multiple string inputs, in-built web-server (HE-t range), remote monitoring options (TL range), wide MPP voltage range and multiple MPP trackers, the THEIA range of inverters offers a flexible and rounded balance-of-system solution.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) has now been delayed until the summer of 2013. DECC also announced a second phase of the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) scheme, which gives money off renewable technologies such as biomass boilers, air and ground source heat pumps and solar thermal panels, will be launched today (2 April) and will be worth £10m more than the existing scheme.
With the news that the RHI launch has been delayed, how has the renewables industry reacted and does this government still seem to be living up to its pledge to be the ‘greenest government’ yet?
Phase 1 of the RHI has been in operation since November 2011 having replaced the Low Carbon Building Programme (LCBP).
Solfex has announced in collaboration with HPS (Heating Plumbing Supplies) that its 26 branches throughout the South of England will be new distribution partners for SOLFEX energy systems products.
The newly published Heat Strategy sets out the long term challenges and opportunities on the pathway to decarbonisation and asks specific questions, including seeking views about future policy options, which the government may need to consider. It outlines that the RHI for householders will be consulted on in September with a launch likely in summer next year. A second phase of the Premium Payment scheme will offer money off renewable kit for householders in the meantime.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) announced that it is extending the Renewable Heat Incentive Premium (RHPP), which was due to run out at the end of the month.
